The 1st Baku Street Photography Festival organized by the YARAT Contemporary Art Space, commemoration the exhibition of the famous photojournalist, one of the best modern Azerbaijani photographers Farid Khayrulin (1947-2020).
During the exhibition, which will be held in the picturesque courtyard of the Shirvanshahs' Palace, more than 40 works of the photographer’s own archieve will be demonstrated in 30 august till 5 September 2021.
The event will be held with the support of The Icherisheher State Historical-Architectural Reserve Department, Icherisheher Museum Center, The Russian Information and Cultural Center (RIC) in Baku, and The Museum Center of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Throughout his creative activity Farid Khayrulin conducted a photo chronicle of Azerbaijan. He has always been in the midst of stormy events, shot photo reports on numerous foreign trips, covering important international events in many countries of the world. Farid Khairulin has also been to hot spots: Shusha, Khankendi, Aghdam, Khojaly, and his footage captured the tragedy of 20th January. Khayrulin has collaborated with top news agencies worldwide, including TASS and Reuters.
Farid Khayrulin is Honored Worker of Culture of Azerbaijan, a member of the Union of Journalists and the Union of Artists of Azerbaijan, a member of the Azerbaijan Photographers Union, a laureate of the Hasanbey Zardabi Award, the first laureate of the Humay Award, the winner of the Golden Argus Award and numerous other awards of local and foreign photo exhibitions. His solo exhibitions were held in many countries of around the world including Russia, Morocco, China, Iran, Switzerland, Germany, Cuba, Mexico, and etc. He was a member of the Board of Photographers of the USSR and the Union of Journalists of the USSR. Farid Khairulin’s works adorn public and private galleries in many countries worldwide, including Germany, Israel, the USA, Great Britain, Russia, etc. His "Payment for Oil” ecological series was the first work of photographic art that got into the museum at the Department of Ecology of the British Foreign Office (where only paintings were exhibited before). He is the author of a number of books and publications, his works illustrate many artistic and historical publications, including “Azerbaijan Is My Generous Land”, “Shah Deniz”, “Modern Azerbaijani Architecture”, “The Khojaly Genocide”, etc., which are displayed on the capital's billboards, and regularly appear on the media pages.
